a past President... |
Welcome to
one of the most scenic areas in America —
Lake Pepin and the Mississippi Valley! We
are the Mississippi Valley Partners (MVP),
a non-profit organization of Wisconsin and
Minnesota business owners and other volunteers
who are dedicated to promoting our scenery,
wildlife, communities, and recreational activities.
This travel planner, our 13th edition, is
designed to assist you in your search for
lodging, restaurants, shopping, recreation,
and services in our area. In the center of
this guide, you will find a useful map to
guide your journey around the lake, from the
quaint Wisconsin villages of Bay
City, Maiden
Rock, Stockholm,
Pepin,
Nelson
and Alma,
to the old Minnesota river towns of Red
Wing, Frontenac,
Lake
City, Camp
Lacupolis, Reads
Landing, Wabasha,
Winona,and
Kellogg.
The 100-mile (137km) circle route around Lake
Pepin is a spectacular drive, with scenic
overlooks, historical markers and other attractions
set in between towering bluffs and charming
river towns. Wildlife is abundant, and there
are great opportunities for watching hundreds
of eagles and thousands of tundra swans during
spring and fall migrations. Trillions of trilliums
and other wildflowers dot the landscape in
the spring. Many of the river towns have town
gardens, and many businesses have garden patios.
Fall drives offer prime color viewing with
a variety of activities to highlight the best
of the season. During the winter you can watch
the eagles fishing from ice floes on the lake.
Historic buildings, quaint antique shops,
unique specialty stores and gift shops are
prominent features of these picturesque river
towns and villages of the Mississippi Valley.
These old river towns are also home to some
of the best restaurants and cafes in the country!
A visit to one of the many art studios and
galleries in the area is another popular activity.
Lake Pepin is a haven for boating enthusiasts.
Whether fishing, kayaking or sailing, you
will find many marinas and boat launch access
points available. World-class biking, hiking,
and ski trails wind between the river and
scalloped, wooded bluffs. The Mississippi
is a grand river, and one of its grandest
stretches is Lake Pepin. From any perspective,
throughout the year, the views around Lake
Pepin are breathtaking.
Once again on behalf of the MVP organization,
we’d like to welcome you and encourage
you to tell your friends, family, and co-workers
about the great time you’ve spent here.
Each and every one of the businesses advertising
here want your trip to our area to be as enjoyable
as possible... please patronize their businesses
during your visit. America will stand strong
with keeping the economy going. Please join
us in future travels as well and let us know
feedback on our website. Thank you.
We invite you to join us in sharing the beauty
and special experiences of the region. Bring
others with you next time!
